Getting Started
1. Editing is a critical step in the writing process, but if the editor isn't a good fit for the author, it could cause a misstep in the process. That said, I want to make sure I'm a good fit for my authors. The way I do that is to do a free sample edit before completing a contract. You can send me approximately 2,000-2,500 words via Google Drive or Microsoft Word. I will edit the excerpt and email it back to you. If you are satisfied, we will move forward. To make things easy, I accept documents in Google Drive or Microsoft Word. All edits will be made in the form of "suggesting/track changes" mode, while constructive criticism and positive notes will be made in the form of a comment if I feel clarification is needed. This allows you to see all thoughts/edits and accept or reject them for yourself.
2. In moving forward, I will send you the pricing invoice, contract, and an approximate timeline for completion. Once you have accepted and sent payment, I will begin editing. (Fifty percent of the payment is due upfront, and the remainder is due upon completion.) If you choose to work in Google Drive, you have access to the file as I'm editing and can monitor changes as they go. With Microsoft Word, you will receive the manuscript with tracked changes via email.
3. At any point during the process you can contact me for clarification or more information.

Editing Services
There are two ways to use my services.
1. Basic editing-just the proofreading component. In this I will check spelling, grammar, punctuation, and word usage. This is a final edit and should be done just prior to publishing. This is a single read through, and it is sufficient for authors who make effective use of beta readers or have used a developmental editor.
2. Expanded editing-This is a copyedit with proofreading. I will check fact consistency with characters, plot, and timeline, aid in overall flow of the text, and complete proofreading components outlined in the "Basic editing" section. This is also a single read through. If there are any substantial changes as a result of feedback, I will re-edit those for free, up to 1,000 words. If you need more than that word count re-edited, the "Basic editing" fee will be assessed on any word count beyond 1,000.
